On Sunday, son of veteran actor and comedian Randy Santiago and wife Marilou Coronel, Ryan, passed away. He was 24 years old. Randy’s brother, Reiley, later then revealed through a Facebook post that the cause of death was a rare form of brain disease and multiple sclerosis.
"Our family is deeply saddened to inform you that our nephew Ryan Leonardo Santiago has joined our Lord today, August 13, 2017. We are relieved that his passing was peaceful and painless. Our family and friends will terribly miss his infectious smile, funny jokes and his great fashion style,” he stated.
"He is survived by his parents Randy and Marilou and brothers Raphael and Raiko. We ask for your prayers for his departed soul and the strength for our family members during this very difficult time. We shall be informing you of urn viewing details soon," he furthered.
Relatives and friends from showbiz expressed their grief and sent their deepest condolences to the Santiago family. Among them were fashion vlogger Dani Barretto, Ryan’s best friend.
Dani and Ryan grew up together since their moms were already good friends even before they were born. She expressed her sadness in an Instagram post on Tuesday, August 15. She said words cannot express the pain she is feeling, but it comforts her to know that Ryan is now in a better place and not hurting anymore.
“What I would give just to see your beautiful smile and feel your warm embrace again,” she said.
“I love you with all my heart. Batukan mo ko pag tatanga tanga ako ha. Mahal na mahal kita. Until we meet again,” she jested.
In another Instagram post, Dani and Ryan were seen embracing each other. Dani shared that she misses Ryan so much and that she feels safe and loved in his arms. She also assured that she will be fine soon.
“In your arms I always felt safe and loved. I'm gonna miss you so much. Even if I feel so damn weak right now, I will be strong. Because I know how much you hate it when I cry,” she said.
“But for now, please excuse my tears, as I have to get used to the fact that it's gonna take awhile before I see that smile of yours and feel your embrace again,” she further said.
On the other hand, Kapamilya actress Julia Barretto also shared her photo with Ryan and Dani on her Instagram page.
She wrote: “Rest in peace Ryan. You were a ray of sunshine. Thank you for all the laughter growing up.”
In an Interview with Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), Dani said she didn’t get to see Ryan when he got sick but assured that nothing changed between them.
“Nag-drastic kasi 'yung pagchi-change so medyo nahihiya siya magpakita sa akin, pero siyempre, mapagpilit din ako at one point so nakita ko rin siya. He was fighting for his family. That was one thing I noticed about him, na lumalaban siya [para] sa family niya, sa mommy niya, sa kapatid niya, and he fought hard. Mga two years din," she said.
When asked what she would like to tell him for one last time, Dani said: "Siguro ang sasabihin ko lang sa kanya is I’m gonna live my life the way he would always want me to live it—full of adventures, fearless, and only a happy life. Kasi that’s what he brought to the table every single time to everyone he knows, everyone that knows him.”
