Success is a word which we often take for granted. Once we reach the peak of our careers, we often think that it will go on forever to sustain us for the rest of our lives. Unfortunately for some, this doesn’t ring true particularly for this old woman.
Pacita “Pacing” Piano is an 84-year-old janitress at an elementary school in Quirino province. Every day, she wakes up at 6am, drinks her coffee, gets dressed and goes to work.
She works half a day each day, from Monday to Friday and earns a total of Php 2,500 per month or around Php 100 a day only.
However, her life hasn’t always been cruel to her as she used to be a teacher and eventually the principal of the school where she serves as a janitress now.
According to Nanay Pacing, she was an educator for more than 50 years and eventually became a principal back in 1995. Aside from serving as the head of their school, she also served as the substitute teacher every time a member of the faculty is absent.
Her former students claim that she was a good, but strict, teacher. Some even call her a “terror” due to her firm rules and stringent way of handling students.
Eventually, she decided to retire in the year 2000 at the age of 65 years old. Just like any other retiree, Nanay Pacing was able to build a house of her own and has saved up enough money to sustain herself and her family.
Unfortunately, her house burned down in the year 2004 along with her life savings. She added that the reason why she wasn’t able to pick herself up after the incident was due to the fact that some of her relatives who owed her money did not pay her back.
On the other hand, her son, Anthony Piano, was not able to finish his studies due to his friends and his bad vices.
Despite her hardships, Nanay Pacing remains strong-willed and hardworking not only for herself but for her family.
