Who could forget little Lyca Gairanod and her powerful voice that made her the first ever grand champion of the singing competition, The Voice Kids, in ABS-CBN? A small girl with an impressive vocal prowess and a sad background story, Lyca touched and charmed most of the viewers.
Back then, her coach and mentor was pop star and Kapamilya talent, Sarah Geronimo, who also won a singing competition that shot her to stardom. Aside from the P1 million prize, Lyca also bagged a recording contract with MCA Music, Inc.
Following the competition, the young singer also portrayed herself in an episode of “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” showing her life as the daughter of a fisherman and collector of recyclable materials like bottles and old newspapers.
She helped her family by scavenging with her mother and singing for neighbors. At 10 years old, Lyca looked tiny for her age.

She then guested on other shows like Hawak-Kamay and Goin’ Bulilit. Recently, she was a contestant on Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids, along with other child stars.
Three years after winning the singing tilt, Lyca still has concerts and gigs with other former singing champs. But for now, she is focused on getting a good education.

According to PUSH, Lyca prioritizes her studies because she aspires to become a teacher someday. In a previous interview with ABS-CBN News, she said, “Gusto ko maging teacher sa school kahit free po basta makatulong po ako sa mga bata... tatapusin ko 'yong pag-aaral ko para maabot ko 'yong gusto kong kurso.”
Of course, she hopes that her siblings will also earn their diplomas in due time.
On Instagram, Lyca posted a selfie with the caption: “Study hard.” She was wearing what appeared to be the green-colored school uniform of Mother Theresa School in Cavite. Most of the netizens are supportive of Lyca’s dedication to her studies, despite her budding singing career.
Previously, Lyca was speculated to attend Eton International School because of her post dated May 25. The photo of her and another lady was captioned, “With teacher @jen10131991 and @etoninternationalschool.”
Although we’re not 100% sure of Lyca’s school, what matters is that she is working hard to achieve her goals of becoming a teacher. Truly, Lyca has grown from being a kid singing sensation to an achieving teenage student!
